Interesting dialogue. I’m not sure that this would work well in fiction though, a play perhaps.

Thanks, everyone. Your comments are really encouraging. This book was a joy to read in terms of how the difficult subject matter of domestic violence was dealt with; and of course the coming of age of a teenage girl.

Lol. I like the way you challenge stereotypes. A lot of us still hang on to this one but I smile when I see female bus drivers. It’s still not a common occurence but it’s a good one.

Love it. The imagery, everything about it just flows - like the rain. The earth-rain imagery goes well with the love story beween them.

Interesting piece. Love the language ad easy flow: “The hunger in her eyes fed the anger in my heart.” Captures the essence and theme of the whole poem and notion of hopelessness of the ‘black’ continent. Neat.

Anything ‘taboo’ or so called ‘forbidden’ always attracts a lot of interest and this story is no exception. It does not take anything away from the fact that it is well written though. Well done. The points suggested for improvement and fleshing out of the story are good too.

Adura Ojo wrote a new blog post: Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Adichie - A review 1 year ago
I had no idea of what to expect from Chimamanda Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus . However, there was one thing I was clear about after reading her two later works: Half of a Yellow Sun and The Thing Around Your Neck - I was in for an experience of storytelling heaven. The first thing that one notices about Adichie is her [...] -

I would echo some of the commenters here as per credility, continuity and typos. While I love reading your work - (“The drunken prophet” - your vote chronicles comp entry was fantasitc), I found some parts of this story a tad unrealistic. The woman not responding to the asthmatic attack - might have worked better [...]
